An important feature of the guardrail design is the presence of a breakaway console, which improves the kinematics of the barrier and vehicle interaction in the event of an accident, thus ensuring the safe return of the car back onto the road if it hits the barrier. During a collision with a guardrail, the beam together with the console detaches from the post, which prevents the car from "diving" under the beam, saving passenger's lives.
It should be noted that the use of a detachable console in the guardrail design increases the reserve of the fence’s containing capacity, as the critical angle of the barrier tilt is minimal and the car does not "fly out" from the edge of the road.
