Road frontal barrier (crash cushion) is used to prevent drastic consequences of a collision of a vehicle with various engineering structures on roads. Such barriers are installed in the areas of separation of traffic flows in front of massive obstacles, bridge/tunnel supports and other dangerous sections of roads, as well as at toll points with a speed limit of 40 km/h. The use of such barriers reduces the number of accidents with drastic consequences and lethal outcome.
Operating principle of the road frontal barrier:
The crash cushion is mounted on a concrete canvas using chemical anchors.
Road frontal barrier (crash cushion) by OAO «Zavod Prodmash» completely complies with the requirements of GOST 33128-2014 and GOST 33129-2014. The construction of the crash cushion is patented and certified according to the TR TS 014/2011 requirements.
The technical experts of OAO «Zavod Prodmash» developed and tested a line of road frontal barriers, meant for speed limits of 80 km/h and 90 km/h.
The testing center NAMI at the Dmitrov polygon tested the structures for impact retention from vehicles of various masses and at different speeds:
Test No. 1
Technical parameters of the test: Vehicle weight - 971 kg. Speed – 82 km/h. Frontal collision
The car body was slightly damaged. The camera installed in the car shows that after the contact with the crash cushion the car's interior was not deformed, the driver remained safe. The crash cushion still had a stock for amortization of impact of greater force.
The road frontal barrier, meant for a speed limit of 90 km/h, was tested by two methods in accordance with the requirements of GOST 33128-2014 and GOST 33129-2014:
1) by the method of frontal collision of the car on the crash cushion;
2) by the method of side collision of the car on the crash cushion at the angle of 20 degrees.

Test No. 3
Technical parameters of the test: Vehicle weight - 1 205 kg. Speed – 91.74 km/h. Side collision at the angle of 20 degrees.
The received indicators are fixed and logged. The conducted full-scale tests showed positive results of using the barrier under real conditions:
The design of the barrier has the property of restoring after a collision by pulling it along the base and replacing the internal parts with new ones, which confirms the economy of operation.
